How much money you can lose

I was just reading a website someone has done for young investers, and the guy said that "the great thing about investing, is you only lose how much money you put up/invest."
I just wanted to check to see if this is true, that if say i put for example ?1000 on stocks, if it went ***s up i`d only lose ?1000.

Of course. Any stock has a chance of going to zero if the company goes under. However, the odds of that are slim and normally there's plenty of time (months or years) for investors to bail before it ever goes to zero.
