Default total daily movement/variation: is there an indicator ?

    Hi guys

Does it exist an indicator/a value/a calculation which show the daily total % movement of an equity ?

I mean something which calculate the whole movement no matter the direction (+ or -)

An example to let you understand:

    open 1.00
    Then 1.10 1.21 1.33 1.06 1.11
    close 1.22

Equity rose 22% but the whole movement has been 65%

    Thanks

If the low was 1.00 and the high was 1.33 the range of movement was 33% up from 1.00 or more accurately 24.8% of 1.33. Your data would suggest there were only 5 movements in the equity....7 if you count the open and close. The number of movements is relative to the time frame you want to look at. If you only look once per hour then that would get you 5-6 data points. So I'm not sure how that would be useful....what's your plan?

    Hi

    Lets say:

Equity A goes from opening at 1.00 to closing at 1.33 straight forward, always increasing on the way up constantly

Equity B goes from opening at 1.00 to closing at 1.33 but going up and down, up and down, continuously

At the end of the day the spread low-high is 33% for both but Equity B made a much longer way

How can you calculate that way ?

Its like measuring the length of the price line on the chart....
