erm....massive spam attack to happen???

Thought I saw something unusual yesterday...saw a bunch of new random accounts with jumbled names registering all at once. Was gonna post saying are they bots??

New registered accounts can't send private messages - except to administrator. (This is new after we were attacked a while ago.) New accounts can't post either without going into moderation. They actually aren't even members yet, until their accounts are approved. The accounts you see as creating private messages were unsuccessful in doing do.

wtf_albino - what weird private message? Let me know what it says.

Also, we have a new system in place that makes it impossible for a bot to register, unless there is a human also participating in the process. Of course that doesn't stop these assholes, just slows them down.

Not sure how that got through - we went through all the user permissions, there were a couple of possible "holes" they found, hopefully it won't happen again.
