There are just so many people online and in some of the media that use the term liberal as if it was the new C-word, like it's a horrible/insulting thing to call someone. As far as I know liberal just means being "open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values" and is just the opposite of being conservative, that is being "holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation". There's nothing immediately wrong with either viewpoint but it seems in recent years being liberal is seen as being a bad thing by some.
