Wow, none of the braced section above stayed intact... although if they didn't understand foundations chances are they didn't understand what went above it either. It isn't much fun wondering what else is going to land on you as you fall. We call it an ignosecond, reality dawns that yup, that was ignorant, but alas the mass is in motion.

Time spent fighting fires sure influenced how my structures were designed---but just from a combustion standpoint. With US&AR I got to see lots of the flood damage from the hurricanes, but there really weren't lessons learned there I could apply. Someday I'd like to see more construction failures from earthquakes and landslides to see what holds best. Nature always bats last though
