View Full Version : Backtesting - any tips?
Hi all!
Do you use computer backtesting? If so, what software could you recommend?
For example: Let's say I would like to discover statistical probability of next day move (up/down) for some candle pattern for specific share. I have historical data. Which software I should use?
Best regards

I don't use it....but a bump for you. However, as they say in disclaimers "Past performance may not be indicative of future performance."

I have used metatrader 4 to do back testing. Just it is dedicated do FX.
I have heard that version 5 has CFDs included, but I have not tried it...

Hmmm.. If you really specific software to back test, I would be choosing metastock. but take backtesting results with a grain of salt. you can easily fit your model to generate results that you want will make you expect things in a wrong way.
I used to hire a programmer and have him do backtesting for me. However, I stop doing that and now I just do manual backtesting. Technical analysis + Psychology is all you need in my opinion.
