I only have around $10,000 to trade. What are the rules on how often I can trade without being pegged as a day trader?

If you have a margin account you can trade all you like if they're overnight (or longer) trades. DAY TRADES (opening and closing a position on the same day) you can do up to 3 in a 5-business day period. More than that and you'll be labelled a "pattern day trader" and be required to maintain $25k in your account.

If you have a cash account, you can trade all you like (even day trades) as long as you pay close attention to settlement dates and avoid free riding.
