Definitely is real... I saw a video clip with audio. I have also seen other clips of improvised explosives take out humvees and other vehicles. That's why the Gov't is scrambling to buy and deliver a more sturdy up-armored vehicle that has better survivability than the humvee -- a family of vehicles called MRAP (mine resistant ambush protected) vehicles.
