Applied DNA Sciences (OTCBB:APDN) announced today that its SigNature DNA technology, a botanical mark used to authenticate products in a unique manner that essentially cannot be copied, and provide a forensic chain of evidence that can be used to prosecute perpetrators, has again proven critical in the conviction of cash-in-transit criminals. The SigNature DNA product has been growing in popularity internationally and its value is being reinforced through an ongoing track record of proven results.

Today’s news announced that Colin Waddingham was found guilty by unanimous jury verdict of cash-in-transit robbery and associated offenses and sentenced to eleven years imprisonment. Waddingham had robbed a Loomis driver of a cash box at a Shell Petrol Station in A****s Green, Birmingham, United Kingdom. DC Danniel Halford of the West Midlands Police Department commented that “SigNature DNA was critical in linking the recovered cash to the defendant."

This latest conviction adds even more validity to APDN technologies as the Company continues to emerge as an industry leader as conveyed through the comments of Tony Benson, Risk Director, Loomis UK, when he stated, "We are pleased with the sentencing of these cash-in-transit crimes. We are especially gratified that since the deployment of SigNature DNA in Loomis cash boxes, we have sent cash-in-transit criminals to jail for an accumulated total of more than 120 years."

Additionally, in London, the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad was aided by Applied DNA’s taggant in the conviction of Alpesh Daudia of two separate cash-in-transit crimes. Daudia was stopped and searched under suspicion of a robbery and the taggant provided evidence that the cash on his person was money stolen in a previous robbery of over a year earlier that had not been linked to him. Commenting on the value of the taggant, Sgt Andrew McGuire, of the Flying Squad, stated, "The investigation highlights the importance of APDN's unique DNA taggant as a tool to track those who commit these crimes. Without these, I doubt either crime would have been solved, nor Daudia brought to justice."

The Applied DNA Sciences DNA security solutions protect products, brands and intellectual property from counterfeiting and diversion. The technologies have been used in a variety of applications including usage to mark luxury products and link them to specific owners. Recently, the DNA platforms are gaining traction in the military and police markets as a result of the press of convictions and performance in cash-in-transit services. Applied DNA CEO, James Hayward commented “Recently, we have been fielding inquiries for our cash-protection platform throughout Europe and Asia."

Shares of APDN have been on a climb over the last five weeks after hitting a low just over three cents per share. December brought about a climb in stock price that touched nice cents before retracing. On the news release this morning shares gapped north and are still holding gains of over 12% as the price per share is holding over seven cents on strong volume with more than 800,000 shares changing hands.

Applied DNA Sciences Signs “Bo” Dietl to Showcase DNA Tools to FBI, Police and Security Firms

In any industry, a company goes for the “big gun” in order to take sales of its product to the next level. For instance, Nike signed Michael Jordan to slam dunk basketball shoe sales several years ago. Wrangler went to Brett Favre due to his appeal as a “good ol’ country boy” in order to try and sell more of its jeans. Getting a superstar that is widely regarded as an industry-expert is the pinnacle of marketing and the goal of any company.

In the world of law enforcement and forensics, the superstar is Richard “Bo” Dietl. Mr. Dietl retired as a detective for the New York City Police Department as one of the most highly decorated officers in its history with thousands of arrests to his credit. President George Bush appointed Bo as Co-Chairman of the National Crime Commission. Governor George E. Pataki appointed Mr. Dietl Chairman of the New York State Security Guard Advisory Council. Presently, he works as a consultant through his company, B&E Advising LLC, where he consult with countries, diplomats and Fortune 100 companies on security practices.

Stony Brook, NY-based Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (OTCBB:APDN) announced yesterday that it has come to terms with Mr. Dietl and B&E to assist in the promotion of Applied’s products and services to law enforcement and private security firms. You could say that a man of Bo’s experience has “been around the block” once or twice, to say the least, and has been involved with plenty of new products that have come and gone. Mr. Dietl’s excitement for Applied DNA’s forensic and authentication technologies is evident in his interview that is available on YouTube at YouTube - AppDNASciences's Channel. Let’s just hypothesize that Adidas takes a new pair of football cleats to Adrian Peterson and the guy gets a smile on his face about how fantastic they are. Think Adidas is going to be happy? The agreement with Mr. Dietl brings an unprecedented level of global validation of Applied’s next generation of crime fighting tools as the resident expert has granted his seal of approval.

As Mr. Dietl explains in the video, DNAnet can be applied to any surface for a variety of applications including being a mode of linking criminals to crime or a way to 100 percent authenticate any object. It can be sprayed on or wiped on and cannot be wiped away or washed off in any manner. The technology has become vital overseas in the UK and Europe and has been used in the conviction of more than twenty criminals already with its momentum building as a result of its proven success rate.

Crime is on the rise and criminals are becoming both brasher and more devious at the same time. With police forces being cut due to reductions in budgets and unsubstantiated greed perpetuating a cycle of counterfeiting and theft; companies, individuals and governments are searching for a tool to combat the situation. What Applied DNA Sciences has to offer is certainly cutting-edge and clearly growing in popularity. Getting not only an endorsement, but the concentrated efforts, of a person the caliber and with the industry connections as Bo Dietl just may perk-up the ears of investors to see where this will lead with contracts in the future.

Crime Fighter Tony Benson Joins Applied DNA Sciences (APDN.OB)

Cash in Transit Expert Benson Ready to Help Leverage Applied DNA Sciences Security and Cash Protection Program Successes

Tony Benson is a well-known crime fighter, and he was instrumental in implementing Applied's Signature DNA cash-marking in the UK for Loomis. In 2010 alone, Benson's work resulted in 22 convictions of cash thieves in the U.K. One robbery in particular involved the shooting of a Loomis guard (in the UK, guards cannot be armed, so they are very vulnerable).

Mr. Benson has joined Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (OTCBB: APDN) as a Director of Risk and Security for the company. Most recently at Loomis UK, Benson has consistently brought fresh ideas, rigorous strategic thinking and leadership to the UK environment which experiences approximately 77% of all the Cash and Valuables in Transit (CViT) robberies worldwide.

APDN sells patented DNA security solutions to protect products, brands and intellectual property from counterfeiting and diversion. SigNature DNA is a botanical mark used to authenticate products in a unique manner that essentially cannot be copied, and provide a forensic chain of evidence that can be used to prosecute perpetrators. Benson will take full advantage of APDN's product offerings and his personal track record of using advanced technologies in CViT is well known.

In 1990, Benson was instrumental in the deployment of biometric access control systems and groundbreaking computer software on armored trucks, which was a great success and is still used today in many armored CViT vehicles. His career has included:

• Securitas in 2001, which at that time was the largest security company in the world. When the cash-handling arm of Securitas became a separate company known as Loomis UK Ltd, Benson was designated Risk Director.
• From 2004 to 2010, Benson represented the UK British Standards Institute on the development of standards for cash degradation systems, such as cash strongboxes.
• In 2006, he was appointed Chair of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) for the Security Committee.

Benson has researched and deployed an array of technologies including APDN’s Signature? DNA cash-marking system, and he has led the industry in a revamp of major risk points. The counter-assault, by 2010 resulted in a massive reduction of 30% in those crimes while losses also dropped by over 30%.

DNA in CViT, Risk Management and Security

Applied DNA has a range of products and solutions that significantly reduce the risk to this cash supply for all stakeholders including insurance companies. Deterrence and the ability to create a forensic evidence trail through the use of SigNature? DNA, DNANetTM, Smart DNATM, and CashieldTM Ink represent ground breaking technology and new tools for this industry to fight crime.

APDN now has a proven track record within the CViT industry. With over 22 convictions to its credit, APDN has a 100% conviction record for captured criminals who have stolen cash from its security licensees within the UK. The result, the deterrence provided by APDN, yielded a significant drop in attacks and eliminated cash losses more than one hundred times the cost of annual licensing. In addition, APDN has received several Police awards from UK Police Forces that are currently using these products on a daily basis to protect and serve their communities.
